How to draw a Good Enough battleship

The other day I was meeting with a client who was charting a new course for the next stage of their business… and the ship metaphor (of course!) came up. However, they were adamant that the ship they wanted would be armed to the teeth to take on any challenges that lay ahead… and to blow any obstacles out of the water.

When traveling to your new destination as a business, sometimes you may want to bring in the big guns… and that means battleships!

Here’s how to draw a Good Enough battleship of your very own!

Three Tips

  • Start with the bow (or front part) of the ship… it’s a great way to set the scale and direction of your drawing!
  •

  • When I think of a battleship, I think of those huge guns! Big guns on the bottom, smaller guns on the top. By starting with drawing the back of the turrets and other topside housing (or whatever they’re called… Good Enough, remember? ;^) it’s an easy job to add the guns to the front side. After drawing in the guns, you can draw in the front side of the housing thingie. (Technical term. I checked. ;^)
  •

  • For some reason, a ship with guns doesn’t quite make a battleship to my eye. It wants two other things: a big ol’ anchor hanging from the front, and that crossbar thing sticking out of the top (the Maintop, I believe it’s called). And portholes are always a plus!

And that’s it! Your ship is locked, loaded, and ready to go!

What does YOUR battleship look like? Don’t wait for someone else to sink YOUR battleship…draw yours up, Tweet it out to @jeannelking #goodenough, and blaze the way!

Want to have fun drawing AND inspire others to pick up the pen at the same time? Got something you wish you could draw, but you’re not sure how to approach it? Tweet your drawing or idea to @jeannelking and tag it with #goodenough: it could be featured in an upcoming “how to draw good enough” blog post!

Looking forward to seeing what you draw forth!
