How to draw a Good Enough ice pop

It’s refreshing. It’s fun to share. It makes a mess and I just don’t care! (It brings out my inner five-year-old faster than a kid chasing an ice cream truck.) Yes, I’m talking about ice pops! And seeing as how (according to some circles) September is National Blueberry Popsicle Month, perhaps it’s time we drew up one of these frosty treats before the summer ends!

Here’s how to draw a Good Enough ice pop of your very own!

Three Tips

  • Part of me REALLY wants to start with the curve at the top, but when I do the side lines look a bit wonky. Instead, I start from the bottom of the first side line and just arc the whole thing around to create the popsicle shape in one stroke.
  •

  • Think about scale when you draw the stick at the end. Your stick should be big enough for small hands to hold. Too big or small and it just starts to look a bit odd. I look halfway up the ice-poppy goodness part and assume that the invisible half of the stick would reach up that far. I get a feel for how long that looks, and draw that much of a stick coming out of the bottom of the ice pop. (Eyeballing it is good enough!)
  •

  • If you have a friend you’d like to share an ice pop with, why not draw a double?

When you draw a double, remember, the stick doesn’t come out of the center of the bottom! Rather, the double pop has two sticks coming out from the center of their respective halves. (I have made that drawing mistake more than once in my life!)
  •
    … and that’s it! (n)Icely done!
