How To Draw a Good Enough “Thumbs Up”

With the way we’re all so hardwired into our Facebook accounts, the “thumbs up” has become the go-to symbol for liking something… certainly giving the smiley face a run for its money!

Perhaps it’s a strategy, new product idea, or simply the latest cat video. The next time you want to show that you like something, pick up the pen and pop out a thumb! Here’s how to draw a Good Enough “thumbs up” sign:

Three Tips

  • Look at your own hand in the “thumbs up” position and notice how the top of the thumb actually wangs back a bit.  I didn’t capture it well in the first step, but you can see it more in steps 2 and 3.  That wanging back makes the digit look more like a thumb.
  • The top finger is actually just a curl in the line that makes the top of the hand.  The rest of the fingers are u-shaped ovals stacked below.  And all four fingers are visible
  • When drawing the fingers in a fist, make sure you draw them long enough.  Check out the difference between the fingers in steps 2 and three.  Step 3’s fingers could have been a little longer to really look like a hand in a fist.

… and that’s it!  Put your thumbs up for a job well done!

(Then draw it up, Tweet it out to @jeannelking #goodenough, and give yourself another hand!)

Want to have fun drawing AND inspire others to pick up the pen at the same time?  Got something you wish you could draw, but you’re not sure how to approach it? Tweet your drawing or idea to @jeannelking and tag it with #goodenough: it could be featured in an upcoming “how to draw good enough” blog post!

Looking forward to seeing what you draw forth!
