Sometimes we (okay… I) can do a great job at making things more complicated than they really need to be. New Year’s resolutions are a case in point. Sure, we make resolutions because we think that achieving those goals will make us happier people in one way or another – happier because we are more fit, because we are more profitable, because we are more accomplished… you name it. But do they really? Or do they end up providing one more thing for us to be critical about when it comes to how we view ourselves? (Yes, I’m thinking of all the years – plural – that I’ve “resolved” to lose weight… )
In a recent Harvard Business Review blog post, Peter Bregman urged readers to “Consider Not Setting Goals In 2013. I have to admit, that post really struck a chord with me. It’s changed the way I’ve approached my 2013 business planning… and it’s got me thinking a bit differently about my resolution for this year: instead of setting a goal, I’m setting an area of focus instead.
Because when I get right down to it, there’s really only one thing I need to focus on to really have a Happy New Year. And maybe this is true for you as well.
Want to know what it is?
Here it is, just for you:
Yep, that’s it. A heart with shine-lines.
Really. It’s that simple.
Focus on the heart. Act from the heart. Shine bright… .and have a very Happy New Year!
