A few weeks ago, I spoke at the 2011 IFVP conference. (That’s the International Forum of Visual Practitioners, folks… my industry’s professional organization.) The conference was four days of sheer bliss: connecting with my visual thinking tribe, learning from, and being inspired by, each other. (HappySigh!)
It was also the first time anyone had ever created a large-scale graphic recording of me speaking.
Now, I’ve done this I don’t know how many times for other people… so I thought I’d be a bit immune to the cool factor. Wrong! The lovely and talented Julia Feng created graphic recording of my hour-long talk… and every time I look at it I get a huge dopey grin on my face! Not only is it amazing to see what someone got out of my session, but it’s super cool to see yourself through the eyes of someone else.
When I look at this graphic recording, I relive my talk. I see Rachel, Lloyd, Eris, Anne, Tim, Dusty, and all the others in that audience. I remember the questions, and I relive the energy and passion and enthusiasm in that room. Best of all, I remember why I love what I do so darn much!
Thank you, Julia, for creating the opportunity for me to experience what it’s like to have the shoe on the other graphic recording foot! It was an honor to be recorded by you! (Check out Julia Feng’s graphic recording in its entirety.)
